The aim of the project was to renovate and repurpose an existing industrial building in Kalochori, Thessaloniki, with a total area of 2.000 m2, to serve as the new facilities for KAFEA TERRA company.
The new setup includes office spaces, a seminar room, a meeting room, communal and employee lounge areas, a technical department section, a 1.000 m2 logistics warehouse, as well as ancillary spaces. The primary objective of the design was to create a modern workspace with a timeless aesthetic that would promote teamwork, creativity, and productivity through large open spaces.
The interventions made to the existing three-building complex were crucial in aligning it with its new use. In one of the three buildings, a metal loft was constructed, covering a total area of 140 m2. Additionally, a wheelchair-accessible elevator was installed in the main building. For the exterior shell, our team created new, large openings and infill walls, and restored the facades using white-toned etalbond aluminum panels.
Areas designated for visitors (such as the reception, guest lounge, product exhibition area, seminar room and ancillary spaces) are located on the ground floor. On the upper level, one finds the administration offices and meeting room. These are arranged in an open-plan layout and divided by glass partitions and small pockets of greenery that provide visual continuity and cohesion to the space.
Project Details
The palette of textures and materials includes pressed cement mortar, wood, metal, and glass, in line with contemporary architectural and design trends. The deliberate array of colors and custom-designed furniture, paired with the company’s products, complete the overall impression.
Special attention was paid to enhancing the energy efficiency and technological infrastructure of the building. This included installing 100 m2 of solar panels, which provide significant energy autonomy, as well as modern VRV network units and audio-visual media controlled through a centralized system to streamline daily operations.
As part of the surrounding area redesign, new fencing and modern parking spaces with electrical chargers were constructed. Additionally, 430 m2 of flower beds were planted to enrich the greenery and provide a pleasant visual retreat for both employees and visitors.
